making a wine rack for the first time
Posted on February 29, 2008

They say that the more your wine is aged, the better it will taste. I don’t think that goes for all wines but definitely 90% of them. So, when you do decide to create your own classic wine, naturally you are going to need a place to store it right? That is when you need a wine rack. Now although wine racks come in all special designs, styles and price range, nothing beats the satisfaction of making your own.
Step 1: Create a design
Now this is the beginning of all projects - planning. The best way to plan for a wine rack is to grab a piece of paper and a pencil and start coming up with different designs. Do a Google search and see what kind of funky wine racks already exist. Trust me, it will totally get your creative juices flowing.

Also when designing a wine rack, try to incorporate elements of your own personality or things you like. You can start by writing a list of things that you like and then try putting them together on a piece of paper. If your design skills are not that good, throw your ideas in front of people at this site Kasamba. Where you can literally hire someone and they can come up with an excellent design for you. After all, your first wine rack should represent you and what you love.
Step 2: Get the Tools
Most households have at least one tool kit lying around. If you don’t, they come pretty cheap and all you really need are the following:
Hammer
Box of nails
Electric saw
Paint of your choice
You can always get super crazy and buy those heavy duty tool kits, but if this is your first attempt in making a wine rack, then the list above should suffice.
Step 3: Get the building materials
Now for your first wine rack, start with wood. Wood is very available and quite flexible. You can get really creative when making things with wood. Nowadays, just take a walk at your local home depot or something and grab pre-cut pieces of wood. You can even just mix and match them like a jigsaw puzzle. They literally come in all shapes and sizes. Now that you have a design ready, you should have a good idea on how to come up with your award winning wine rack. I always say keep it simple and keep it clean - this definitely goes for making your first wine rack!
So get started and feel free to send pictures of the wine rack that you made.
