Italian Wines

Italian wines are one of the best wines in the world. After the Romans were defeated during second century BC by the Greeks, the wine grapes production started flourishing throughout the country and later large number of grape plantations came in the coastal areas of the country.

Italian wine grapes of both white and red varieties are grown in different parts of the country from the cold region of Alps to the southern coastal region. Although more than 500 varieties of grapes are grown in the country and out of 500, 350 varieties have been authorized by the Italy’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. A few varieties of premium red wine grapes include Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Corvina, Dolcetto, Negroamaro,  and premium white wine grapes includes Trebbiano, Moscato, Pinot Grigio, Robolla Gialla and Arneis.

Italian wine is mostly produced by modern vineyards, however people in small villages also prepare wine for their own consumption by traditional methods. You will see many people in Italy having their own vineyards and a majority of people prefer to have wine at dinner. From among the twenty wine grapes growing regions, the Italian wine produced from these different regions can have different taste and flavor. Italian wine is also an essential ingredient of many food items such as red meat, soups, fishes, pork, pasta etc.

In the last two decades, wine farming has covered almost all the parts of the country and Italy currently produces one fifth of the total world wine out of which a major portion is exported throughout the globe. Italian wine brands are classified into various categories including DOC (G) wines, Doc wines, table wines and all these wine have always been in great demand wordwide.
