History of Alcohol

Geologists and historians have confirmed that alcohol was produced and consumed by humans thousands of years ago – even before Christ. Overtime, the alcohol making process has been improved significantly with technology but the basics are still the same (Yeast + Sugar = Alcohol).

Although alcohol was discovered and used thousands of years ago, the name “Alcohol” is somewhat recent. Alcohol was originally a term used by Arabs and they described it as “Al-Cohol”. That is very ironic because almost all Arab countries today prohibit Alcoholic drinks except U.A.E (Dubai) and a handful of other Arab countries.

The ancient Egyptians had over 40 different varieties of alcohol related products. In fact, alcohol was considered a necessity in ancient Egypt and was considered a symbol of their god (Osiris), and a sign of good health, long life, wealth, etc. The ancient Egyptians even invented ’straws’ to sip their alcoholic drinks.

So far, scientists have concluded that alcoholic drinks that we enjoy today such as wine and ciders, were first produced in Cyprus. From there it spread throughout Europe and people picked it up pretty quick :) – Soon other alcoholic drinks started to appear such as Beer, Vodka, Whiskey etc.

History concludes that alcohol has always been part of various thriving civilizations. From the Kings to the commoners, everyone appreciated the joys of Alcohol. So if there are any countries out there who still have doubts about Alcohol, simply refer to your own ‘human’ history and you’ll find the answer :)
