home winemaking for beginners

home winemaking for beginners

So you are interested in finding about about making wine at home but as a beginner, you are naturally sceptical. If you’ve never made wine at home then home winemaking is definitely one of those things where research pays - big time!

The first step is to understand where alcohol (or ethanol in scientific terms) comes from and how its made. I think its better to understand the main concept of a particular thing before you decide to move on further. In this case, the particular thing is alcohol.

Alcohol is created when sugar and yeast are combined together. Its a chemical reaction that occurs when both of these properties come together. However, it is not just alcohol that is created, you also get carbon di oxide. So when you mix yeast and sugar together, you basically get alcohol and carbon di oxide. That is generally how alcohol is created for any drinks.

Now to make wine, instead of just using sugar and yeast, you add some grape juice to the mix. This mixes the alcohol with grape juice thus creating wine. So all you are doing is adding juice to the mix of sugar and yeast. To make wine you add grape juice to create ciders you add fruits and so on.

Now that you understand how winemaking works, I suggest you try out different wine making kits. If you are willing to spend some decent cash on wine making equipment and have some time on your hands, then go for it!

However, if you really want to get into home winemaking but don’t want to spend crazy money or time (As it takes 30 days for other kits to make wine) then I suggest try out the home booze kit. Before I try something new, I like to learn about it and at least get the basics down. I hope this article gave you an idea on how simple it is to get started in home winemaking.

So remember kids, yeast + sugar = alcohol and yeast + sugar + type of juice = wine, ciders etc.

Simple as that!
