Fermentation is simply a word used by ‘wine nerds’ to describe the wine making or even alcohol creating process. In simple terms, Fermentation is basically the process of turning grapes into wine. The same word ‘fermentation’ can be applied to alcoholic drinks made from other fruits and vegetables.
The process works this way . . . When sugar is mixed with proper yeast, it creates something known to the scientific community as ethanol (Drinkable alcohol) and also produces another compound called CO2 (Carbon Di Oxide). Fermentation when it starts happening, it can go on for days and even months. It all depends on the mixture of the sugar, the type of yeast involved and the results your are trying to obtain.
Some other factors that people take in consideration are the temperature and exact amounts of sugar and yeast involved. Fermentation is a process that was discovered thousands of years ago and it has since been literally perfected. Each type of drink (Wine, Beer etc) requires some minor variations here and there but overall, it’s the same process. When you mix the right amount of sugar and yeast with the juice of your choice, it turns into an alcoholic drink which uses the type of juice used for flavor.
This is also the simple secret behind the Home Booze Kit too.
